Veterans Support Group
This group is facilitated by a licensed counselor/OIF Veteran, Laura M. Harper, from the Columbus Vet Center. All veterans from any era are welcome, including those who served in non-combat operations. Veterans do not need to be eligible for VA services to attend.
This support serves to respond to the needs of veterans in the community and will be peer directed. Group discussions may include military experiences, benefits/claims/upgrades for discharges, present relationship, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, military sexual trauma and other topics of concern to members. Focus will be put on “peer-to-peer support” and open exchange of “shared experiences” in a safe and welcoming community environment. If necessary, additional resources will be provided or facilitated through the Vet Center and/or Stonewall Columbus.
*NEW* LGBT Veterans Discharge Review Program
The Stonewall Columbus Veterans Program now offers resources that will assist the LGBT veteran in obtaining an official military “discharge review” of other than honorable DD-214 discharges for homosexuality, homosexual behavior or other related offenses with the goal of receiving an official modification to “general” or “honorable” discharge. Trained Stonewall staff will assist the LGBT Vet in obtaining military records, creating and submitting discharge appeal documents and potentially obtaining temporary Veterans Administration benefits.
