For more information about about World AIDS day visit http://www.worldaidsday.org
Why Should You Care?
Approximately 56,000 new HIV infections occur each year in the United States, about 70 percent among men and 30 percent among women. Of these newly infected people, half are younger than 25 years of age.

5 Things you can do to Respect & Protect
1. Find out the facts about HIV and talk to your friends, family and colleagues about HIV – make sure they know the reality, not the myths.
2. Know your HIV status: get tested if you have put yourself at risk.
3. Talk to all new sexual partners about using condoms. Using an condom during sex (especially anal or vaginal sex) is the best way to protect yourself and your partner from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
4. If someone tells you they are HIV positive, treat them with respect and don’t tell others without their agreement.
5. Wear a red ribbon as a symbol of your support for everyone affected by HIV, and to raise awareness.
World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1st. The World Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988. World AIDS Day provides governments, national AIDS programs, faith organizations, community organizations, and individuals with an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention on the global AIDS epidemic.

Upwards of 5 million gays and lesbian have served in the US Military Armed Forces throughout the history of the United States. It is estimated that between 1 and 2 million current veterans in the US are gay or lesbian. As we all know, the history of acceptance in the military, and afterwards as veterans, has been horrifically absent and it is well past due for major changes in inclusion of all Americans in the armed forces and in veterans organizations, just as many of our major allies have done. All of those serving in our armed forces put their lives on the line, and many die, defending America and others around the world. So let us salute all of our LGBT brothers and sisters who have given their lives so that we can continue to live free.
We are compiling a mailing list of Central Ohio LGBT Veterans to send out requests for LGBT Color Guards and occasional announcements and news of interest to our veterans.
Visit http://www.stonewallcolumbus.org/veterans to sign-up for the list.
