  • The Federal Marriage Amendment Lost!

Good News!!The Federal Marriage Amendment lost in the Senate with a bipartisan vote of 50-48. This was a significant win because it demonstrated that many Senators are beginning to understand that this amendment was pure and simple discrimination. Equally important this amendment was a direct attack on the democratic principles of our country.

This fight was won today because of your telephone calls, emails and faxes urging Senators to stop discrimination. This is truly a joyous triumphant and we should celebrate tonight that another battle has been won for civil rights. Be Proud tonight!!! – Please share this victory with each of your friends, family members, neighbors and colleagues and thank all of them who helped.

But the war is not over and there are many battles ahead. Our next battle is the fight against the effort to amend the Ohio State Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. There will be fundraisers and grass root efforts to stop discrimination from being written in to the Ohio constitution.

The U.S. House of Representatives will begin addressing the same-sex marriage.

The Religious Right and Neo-Conservative groups will become even more vicious with their messages of hate and discrimination. They are witnessing support for a ban against same-sex marriage diminishing which in turn has a negative impact on their fundraising capabilities. We must stand ready again and very quickly for the next fight. With victories like today, we are reminded of how glorious of a fight this is.

    Thank you for your efforts!
